Susan Aldworth is an artist whose background in philosophy is central to her work. Her most recent work focuses on the human brain and issues of identity. Aldworth has experimented using brain scans and other hospital artifacts alongside print in her quest to marry materials and subject. Her work continues to address questions of how to define one's personality and whether it could be physically located in the brain

A highly skilled printmaker, Susan Aldworth creates highly evocative and magical etchings and digital prints. Her keen interest in ideas and concepts drawn from philosophy determines the direction of her work. Aldworth`s most recent project, focussing on consciousness and mapping the human brain, has led her to develop a radical new etching technique seen here in her Brainscape 1- 30 series . Cogito Ergo Sum 3 is a series of 20 digital prints which visualise what a brain scan might look like if it could show what was going on in the mind as well as the physical structure of the brain. Susan Aldworth has exhibited widely, most recently at the Cuenca Biennale in Ecuador in 2007, the Old Operating Theatre Museum in 2006, the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2000 and 2002, and the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 2002. Her work is held in many private and public collections in Europe and the USA.
