I graduated in Mathematics cum laude at the University of Genoa (2002). I obtained the Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondis (master) in Mathematics Education at the University Paris 7 (France) (2004), with a dissertation on the relationship to mathematics of prospective primary teachers. I obtained the title of Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics at the University of Turin (2007) with a thesis on the “culture of theorems” at university level.
Between 2004 and 2012 I taught in pre-service Primary and Secondary School teacher education programs (Universities of Genova, Pavia, Valle d'Aosta). I worked as a research fellow at the University of Genoa (2006-2012) within research projects on the teaching and learning of argumentation and proof at secondary school level.
Since 2008 I directed the development and experimentation of task sequences with a focus on linguistic competence and argumentation (project “Language and argumentation in mathematics”, within the national project “Lauree Scientifiche” (“Scientific degrees”, PLS), funded by MIUR (Italian Ministry of Instruction, University and Research). Since October 2012, I work as a researcher at the department of Philosophy and Education the University of Turin. My research interests are: the interaction between affective and cognitive factors in the teaching and learning of mathematics; argumentative competence and proof; teacher education.
