Since 2001, I have been teaching Mathematics and Physics in upper secondary school in Reggio Emilia (Italy).
After my degree in Mathematics at Modena and Reggio Emilia University and a post-degree diploma at the Specialization School for secondary school teaching at Parma University, I obtained a PhD in Mathematics at Modena and Reggio Emilia University in 2009 with a dissertation titled “Problems related to the teaching/learning of algebra and role of algebraic language in the construction of proofs: competences/awareness of students and teacher’s actions”.
In 2006-2008 I participated in the European Project “Transforming Mathematics Education through Teaching-Research Methodology” as mentor and math instructor for the teachers involved in experimental studies on the role of algebraic language as a tool for thinking.
In 2006/2007 and 2008/2009, within the national project “Lauree Scientifiche” (“Scientific degrees”) I was involved in upper secondary schools laboratorial activities on the teaching/learning of algebra and worked with teachers in the joint analysis of the activated teaching/learning processes.
Since 2006 I have been a member of the research group in Mathematics Education of Modena and Reggio Emilia University coordinated by Prof. N.A. Malara. In particular, I contribute to the research developed within the ArAl Project, aimed at proposing a linguistic and constructive approach to early algebra starting from primary school or even kindergarten and also meant to constitute an integrated teacher education program.
My main research interests are:
(1) innovation in the didactic of algebra;
(2) the analysis of teaching/learning processes, with a focus on the role played by the teacher;
(3) methods to promote early algebraic thinking in young students;
(4) teacher professional development.
