I have a doctoral degree in pure mathematics, representation theory of algebras, and have been working in universities for twenty years. Since 1998 I have been at my present institution’s teacher education department, where I have directed my interests towards the didactics of mathematics.
I have been engaged in several research projects, most recently in the EU 7th framework projects PRIMAS, Promoting Inquiry in Mathematics and Science Education Across Europe, and mascil, Mathemtics and science in life.
At present I am also engaged in research on the transition from school to university mathematics, work which is presently being extended to include research on the transition from university to the world of work; and I am also working on exploring classrooms and the work of ‘expert teachers’ in Shanghai, China.
