Expanded Interiors Book Launch

You are warmly invited to the Expanded Interiors book launch and lunch. This will take place on Tuesday 17th December in the Fine Art Seminar Room (3.28) in the Fine Art Department at Newcastle University from 1:00 - 3:00pm.

After a welcome by Professor of Roman Archaeology Ian Haynes and a short talk by artist Catrin Huber, art historian Dr Fiona Anderson will introduce her text 'We Are Rarely Independent Structures', her essay for the catalogue.

Artist Catrin Huber developed site-specific installations in dialogue with two Roman houses at world-heritage sites Herculaneum and Pompeii. Fiona Anderson and Sean Ashton’s accompanying essays discuss the installations’ complex relationship to their respective archaeological sites / time, while curator Dieter Roelstraete’s essay re-evaluates his argument about a “historiographic turn’ within the arts, as first made in his seminal book ‘The Way of the Shovel’. The publication also features Huber’s fictional panel discussion about Art, Architecture, and Life.
