Study Overview

The ENHANCE-D Study (Enhancing Dental Health Advice) is a clinical trial that aims to explore the effectiveness of dental advice offered to patients during routine visits. We would like to investigate if the advice package offered by a dental professional has a beneficial outcome for dental health and if it will be cost-effective for the NHS.

Why is this important?

Looking after your general and dental health is important to help maintain a healthy smile. Brushing your teeth regularly with fluoride toothpaste as well as visiting your dentist regularly is important to keep your teeth healthy. Your diet, smoking and drinking alcohol can affect your oral health. Therefore, a healthy lifestyle is important for your teeth.

Who can take part?

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You also must fulfil some particular criteria which your dental team will check.
  • You must be willing and able to provide informed consent prior to any trial procedures taking place.

You may not be able to take part in the study if you have certain health conditions, which means that you would be unsuitable for the advice packages or to complete the study assessments. However, we will collect information on your medical history and will do a number of checks to confirm that you are suitable to take part before we enter you into the study.

Do I have to take part?

It is up to you to decide whether you want to join the study. If you agree to take part, we will then ask you to complete a consent form. This will not affect the current or future routine dental care you receive.
