Why it's important

The Lebialem Highlands of Cameroon are regarded as a biodiversity hotspot for a large diversity of species of all kinds of different taxa.

They are also home to the rarest species of great Ape in the world, being that of the Cross River Gorilla.

Cocoa and palm plantations along with the abuse of agricultural practices have resulted in the habitats of these species to become increasingly fragmented and creating inhospitable areas for species to thrive in.

To counteract these threats to biodiversity, organisations such as ERuDeF and the Cross River Gorilla Project are setting up protected areas, and working in collaboration with local communities, governmental bodies and academic institutions to help provide the best quality of life for all to benefit from.

Some examples of the important work these organisations deliver on a daily basis include:

  • Reinforcing alternative practices
  • Educating communities about their effects on conservation
  • Medically assisting those affected by the current humanitarian crisis

But more needs to be done still...

Educating those who can and are willing to make a difference will prove vital to the success of these organisations aims, whilst also allowing for a much larger connected community all working together to help tackle the same goals:

To preserve and to protect

This game could provide the stepping stones that allow better knowledge of conservation practices to be expressed globally thus enabling these amazing endangered species to thrive once more in the habitats to which they call home.
