ConnectingPrincipleSound
coincides with the visit of Joerg Stelkens software designer
and curator of the Tube, Munich, from April 28th to May
4th. Joerg Stelkens will present a series of talks and
workshops, including a demonstration of his granular synthesis
instrument Crusher-X. MA students in Creative Music Technology
and Jonathan Clark have been interacting with this software.
ConnectingPrincipleSound
will present a live event culminating from this process
and new sound works and performances by Matthew Sansom
and Robin Storey.

Stelkens will be visiting Music and Fine Art from 28th April
to 2nd May. He will give two presentations:-
- 1.
Granular Synthesis:
LR2,
Music Department, Tues 29th April 11am -1pm.
- A
general overview of the existing granular synthesis realisations
including programmed examples on Crusher-X. Other currently
available granular synthesizers and associated technology
are also discussed. To include music examples from composers
who have used granular synthesis (e.g. Xenakis, Truax, Brümmer).
2. Network Composition:
A

Boyle Lecture Theatre, Music Department,
Weds 30th April 1- 3 pm.
- John
Bischoff was one of the first American composers who experimented
with music on computer networks. He founded the groups "The
League" and "The Hub". Jörg Stelkens
has conducted a video interview with Bischoff about his
views on the history of network music and compositional
strategies. This lecture will present extracts from this
interview and provides an overview of the history of network
compositional approaches. Many sound examples, pictures
and video documents.
Joerg Stelkens is a software designer and curator of the
T-U-B-E, Munich.
