b-cátt is the improvised music endeavour of Michael Philip Bridgewater, a composer and improviser currently finishing a BA in Music at Newcastle University.
His work attempts to undermine the fixity of time by the doctoring and 'screwing' of loops and samples acquired whilst recording broadcasts from radio stations around the world. These sounds act as a canvas upon which he deploys more gestural live sounds extracted using unorthodox techniques on a mandolin, facilitating an idiomatic and tactile approach that sees the instrument being played in a number of different ways.
b-cátt's work includes the recently released album 'sevens', can be downloaded for free via the online critical practice journal Felt Beak.
