Andrew Burton’s recent projects have taken place in India, Korea and the Netherlands as well as in the UK. His sculpture explores the intersections between sculpture, craft-process and basic building technologies. Working in New Delhi during 2005 and 2006 he collaborated with groups of highly skilled craftspeople, including bamboo workers, brick masons and the women who use cow dung to create amazing, if functional, structures and environments.
In 2006 he participated in the European Ceramic Centre’s ‘Brick Project’ which sets out to address the condition of the brick at the beginning of the 21st Century. It is this project, which will be exhibited in Rotterdam later this year, which forms the groundwork for his contribution to Connecting Principle.
