Research

Two major strands of research bridged two distinct research communities – city and regional development and Higher Education, simultaneously engaging with hitherto separate policy and practice communities. The first stage of the research (2011-13) examined the role of universities from the perspective of the city (looking into the university from outside).  The second stage (2014-16) took an inside–out perspective and the challenges universities faced in managing civic engagement. This underpins ongoing action research which has the objective of implementing meaningful and measurable collaboration between universities and local civic institutions.

Survey Responses from Participating Universities

We would like to thank the participating universities for completing our 2019 survey regarding their approach to the implementation of Civic University Agreements with local partners. The response was exceptional and the information provided was invaluable in helping to develop guidelines and a framework for the agreements.
