Welcome to the Cluster for Interdisciplinary Artefact Studies (CIAS). Established in 2015 as a Faculty Research Group, CIAS engages in innovative research, advanced teaching, consultancy work and public outreach projects in the field of artefact studies.

By reaching out to a number of audiences including Higher Education, heritage institutions and the commercial sector, CIAS intends to fulfil Newcastle University’s commitment to be a leading civic university, responding to real-world challenges, contributing to the regional and national economy, and making a positive impact on society from local to global levels.

The project "The first European daggers: function, technology, and social significance (EuroDag)" has just been awarded a grant for a Marie Sklodowska-Curie International Fellowship. More here.
