Mr. Nazir Mabdulkader

Abstract/Biography

Nazir Mabdulkader is a retired Science teacher from Qamishli, Kurdish Syria. He taught in a government school in Qamishli for 30 years and then moved to Damascus where he continued to teach in a private school for 10 years. After fleeing the war in Syria, Nazir took refuge with his family in Kurdistan Iraq and eventually Nazir and his wife came to the UK via the UNHCR resettlement scheme in 2017.  Nazir and his wife are trying to rebuild their life in the UK by prioritising learning English and on being reunited with their children. Nazir also focuses on preserving Kurdish culture and rebuilding some sense of normality. Nazir will talk about his experience in the UK and the challenges and opportunities faced.
