Comprehensive validity and reliability analysis of privacy concern instrument
We conducted a comprehensive validity and reliability analysis of the Internet Users' Information Privacy Concern scale (IUIPC). As the first independent confirmation appempt of IUIPC on a large sample, and one of the most elaborate analyses of a privacy concern instrument undertaken to date, we could show a range of problems in content validity, construct validity and reliability. While our analysis took into account a range of design decisions in choice of estimation methods, we found that the 10-item version of the scale (IUIPC-10) consistently failed a range of validity and reliability criteria on two independent samples. With the help of a thrid sample, we offered a re-specification that offers better model fit, validity and reliability properties throughout.
