Research Capacity Development

Raka Polyma

  • 2nd Year Medical Student
  • A second year medical student undertaking a summer NIHR studentship focusing on potential therapeutic interventions for sarcopenia.

Raka is a second-year medical student at the University of Sunderland.  She completed a Master’s degree specialising in cancer and took the opportunity to take on an NIHR studentship in a new field to develop her research skills. Raka explored potential therapeutic interventions for sarcopenia which she hopes to take with her in her future career. Even though her studentship only lasted for 6 weeks, Raka felt that she learnt a lot and was well supported.
