Matthew is a registered Clinical Scientist and Clinical PhD fellow funded by the NIHR Newcastle BRC.  He studied at the Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust specialising in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Matthews PhD focusses on the application of MRI in Neuromuscular ageing. Currently he works at the Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre and is developing a novel imaging technique to investigate motor unit activity in muscle in conjunction with colleagues in AGE Research Group and the Institute of Neuroscience. He worked closely with Dr Richard Dodds to apply this imaging technique in volunteers taking part in the MASS-Lifecourse study to help better understand mechanisms behind Sarcopenia.
