Dr Claire McDonald

Claire joined the AGE Research Group in 2023 as a Clinical Intermediate Fellow. She had completed 5 years as an NHS consultant in Geriatric medicine, during which time she was PI and CI on several clinical trials aimed at improving outcomes in patients with sarcopenia and Parkinson’s disease. She also developed an interest in patients with multiple longterm conditions (MLTC).

As part of the AGE Research Group her work continues to focus on ageing, sarcopenia and MLTC. She remains an honorary Consultant at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, where she leads the Movement Disorder Service and continues to see older people with MLTC. She is the NIHR LCRN speciality lead for Ageing for North East and North Cumbria.

Claire’s primary aim is to improve people’s health and independence in later life and improve older People’s access to participation in clinical trials and research.
