Tea, cake and study results with Professor Miles Witham and Dr Claire McDonald

The MET PREVENT study team at the AGE Research Group recently hosted two tea parties to thank participants for their valuable contributions.

The MET PREVENT study was funded by the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and set out to determine whether the drug metformin, commonly used to treat diabetes, can improve physical function in older people living with frailty.

Study participants were invited to bring a guest along to the ‘Thank you’ tea parties, where Professor Miles Witham and Dr Claire McDonald presented the results and hosted Question-and-Answer sessions.

There were also a range of round-table discussions during which participants gave their feedback on taking part in the MET PREVENT study, advice on how it could have been improved, and were given information about other upcoming opportunities to take part in research.

The tea parties were held in the heart of our patient communities; with one at Westerhope Community Centre in Newcastle and the other at Whickham Community Centre in Gateshead.
