Prof Sian Robinson gives plenary lecture at the 22nd IUNS International Congress

Prof Sian Robinson attended the IUNS Congress in December to give a plenary lecture ‘Nutrition through the life course and lifelong health’.

The International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) organises a Congress every four years.  Attended by more than 3000 nutrition researchers from countries across the world, the Congress is a forum to meet up with global colleagues and for knowledge exchange.  The 22nd IUNS-ICN, held in Tokyo, Japan, was a very welcome opportunity to meet in person again, having been postponed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The theme of the congress was: ‘The Power of Nutrition: For the Smiles of 10 Billion People’ with a wide-ranging programme that addressed issues from food literacy, dietary diversification, ultra-processed foods to the nutritional needs of ageing populations.

Sian’s lecture gave an overview of life course research and what has been learned over the past 30 years, focusing on the role of nutrition and its effects on health across the lifespan - from the pre-conception period to older age.
