Professor Rachel Cooper awarded funds for a month-long research visit to Finland
Prof Rachel Cooper has been awarded a University of Jyväskylä (JYU) Visiting Fellow Programme Grant that will fund a month-long research visit to Finland. She will be hosted by Professor Taina Rantanen and her group in the Gerontology Research Center within the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at JYU.
Rachel has previously collaborated with Prof Rantanen and Dr Mikaela von Bonsdorff from JYU on a number of projects on ageing, grip strength, physical activity and mobility. Building on these strong foundations, one of the main aims of Rachel’s research visit will be to foster new collaborations between Newcastle University and JYU. One way in which Rachel plans to do this is by learning more, during her visit, about the excellent data resources and research produced by Professor Rantanen’s group so that opportunities for future collaborative projects can be identified.
By delivering seminars and highlighting the work of the AGE Research Group and the ART of Healthy Ageing Network, Rachel hopes to increase the international reach of our work. She also hopes to explore options for joint capacity building and future research exchanges for early and mid-career researchers at both institutions.
