Professor Miles Witham delivers talk at the Drug Discovery 2024 conference
AGE Research Group member Professor Miles Witham delivered an invited talk at Drug Discovery 2024 conference in October 2024. The conference, held at the Excel Centre in London, brought together 3500 delegates from academia, large pharmaceutical companies, biotech startups, equipment and contract services organisations.
Professor Witham spoke on the topic of “Design and delivery of geroscience clinical trials: pitfalls and good practice”. The talk reviewed aspects of good design for geroscience trials, the importance of reaching under-served groups in research, and highlighted the NIHR Newcastle BRC-funded MET-PREVENT trial led by the AGE Research Group as an example of innovation in this rapidly evolving area.
Professor Witham’s talk was part of an all-day conference track on ‘Therapeutic discovery for healthy ageing’ organised by internationally leading researcher in the biology of ageing Professor Linda Partridge, and Janet Brownlees from Merck, Sharp and Dohme. The good attendance and level of interest spoke to the increasing interest in geroscience in the drug discovery community and provided an excellent opportunity to connect with industry colleagues and highlight the cutting-edge work of the AGE Research Group in this important area.
