EUGMS 2019, Krakow, Poland
Members of the AGE research group recently travelled to Krakow, Poland to attend the 15th International Congress of the European Geriatric Medicine Society. The congress included a range of excellent presentations on topics directly relevant to the team, including muscle biology, sarcopenia and frailty and their modifiable risk factors, diet and physical activity, as well as updates on new epidemiological studies and trials.
Professor Sian Robinson presented an overview of the nutritional treatment of sarcopenia, which was well received and prompted thought provoking questions from the audience. And it was great to see our work included in other presentations throughout the congress too, including Professor Avan Sayer’s latest review in the Lancet on sarcopenia definition and screening, Dr Richard Dodds’ data on grip strength across the lifecourse and Dr Antoneta Granic’s work on dietary patterns and sarcopenia (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30709690 and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30935012).
The congress provided a wonderful opportunity to learn about recent scientific developments in geriatric medicine and we are already looking forward to next year’s congress in Athens!
