AGE Research Group at the British Geriatrics Society Autumn Scientific Meeting
AGE Research Group team members were busy presenting work spanning from epidemiology, through clinical trials and improvement science at the Autumn BGS meeting in Leicester last week (6-8 November 2019).
Tom Stubbs and Fred Barker both had oral poster presentations (given to the top ten abstract submissions); Tom presented data from his student-selected component project on external validation of the Nottingham Hip Fracture – a project conducted jointly with colleagues in Northumbria NHS Trust. Fred presented the results from his Masters of Public Health thesis, which used data from the HAALSI cohort of older South Africans to construct and test a frailty index; work conducted with colleagues from Newcastle, Harvard and from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
In addition, Dr Ellen Tullo presented on a novel quality improvement project to improve how outpatients services are delivered for older people in Northumbria NHS Trust, and Professor Miles Witham presented the main results from the NIHR-funded BiCARB multicentre trial of oral bicarbonate to treat acidosis in older patients with kidney disease.
