AGE Group Lunchtime Seminar Series – Dr Vina Tan

The AGE Research Group recently welcomed Dr Vina Tan, who gave a virtual seminar to the group showcasing a range of research that she is conducting with older people. Dr Tan, who is a senior lecturer at the School of Health Sciences, Univerisi Sains Malaysia, was accompanied on the virtual seminar by student and postdoctoral colleagues from Malaysia.

Dr Tan presented several studies covering methods from epidemiology, through trials, to health services research. Topics included the effect of physical activity on bone health in older women with type 2 diabetes mellitus, a pilot randomised controlled trial of diet and exercise interventions for older people with sarcopenia, studies on the epidemiology of sarcopenia in Malaysia, and work on training a student workforce to implementing a health support service for older people.

The session provided an opportunity for Vina and her team to meet the AGE group, but also for us all to start conversations on shared areas of interest such as sarcopenia and multiple long-term conditions, with a view to future collaboration. We look forward to continuing the discussions and many thanks to Vina and all her colleagues for joining us.
