2 x Fully-funded PhD Studentships open for applications
Kickstart your research career and achieve a PhD with world-class interdisciplinary training. Our team includes clinicians, epidemiologists, data scientists, and sport and exercise scientists in partnership with patients and the public.
We are pleased to advertise two fully funded PhD Studentships through the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (Ageing, sarcopenia and multimorbidity theme). The closing date for applications is Friday 15th March 2024.
The successful applicants will join our interdisciplinary team with a focus on improving lives through world-class research in ageing, sarcopenia, and multiple long-term conditions, which is led by Professor Avan Aihie Sayer, Director of the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The studentships are funded by the NIHR Newcastle BRC, and the successful applicants will become members of the Ageing, Sarcopenia and Multimorbidity theme (ASM). This BRC theme builds on our internationally recognised research on ageing and involves working across academic disciplines and clinical specialties in partnership with patients and the public.
Both studentships will involve working with other members of the ASM theme to undertake projects aligned with our research programmes. These projects, which share the vision of enabling a step-change in translational ageing research that will deliver significant health benefits for older people, focus on:
Project 1: Morphology of skeletal muscle across the lifecourse
Project 2: Developing experimental medicine trial platforms
Both projects will include comprehensive bespoke training in translational research, with regular formal supervision, and enable the successful applicants to gain a range of transferable research skills to complement their PhD.
Full details including how to apply are available via the links above. For informal enquiries please contact age.resources@newcastle.ac.uk.
