Helen Kendall is a 2nd year PhD candidate studying at Newcastle University within the School of Agriculture Food and Rural Development. As a Food Standards Agency (FSA) funded scholar 2009-2012 Helen is undertaking "An examination of the domestic food safety and hygiene practices of the over 60's in the North East of England", employing a mixed methods research approach combining questionnaire based research to provide baseline segmentation data on the population sample to be followed by an ethnographic study to examine detailed household level practices of specific population sub-segments. Her principle research interests include: the diversity of the ageing process, the older consumer, older adults and their relationships with food and nutrition and the domestic food hygiene beliefs and practices of adults over the age of 60. Methodological interests include: Ethnographical research, SPSS, multivariate analysis techniques and computer-assisted qualitative da! ta analysis: NVivo. Helen previously studied Sociology at Leeds University 2003-2006 (BA hons: 2:1) and has completed a MSc in International Marketing (Distinction) at Newcastle University.
