What is ACTION?

Welcome to the ACTION Programme Website

ACTION is a 9-month programme for staff and student researchers to develop their entrepreneurial skills and develop solutions to real societal challenges.

During the ACTION programme, postgraduate research students and research staff engage within interdisciplinary teams to create a commercial product/service. The training element consists of a two-day residential followed by a series of 1-day workshops. This is supplemented by additional training elements at the request of the participants.

This website allows you to explore the programme and to keep up to date with the latest news on the progress of the project and it's participants.

Following the success of ACTION 2011: Sustainability, ACTION 2012: Social Renewal and ACTION 2013: Challenge North East, 2014's competiton is:

ACTION 2014: Changing Age

Newcastle University is committed to ensuring its research helps address some of the key global issues by focussing on selected societal challenge themes (Ageing, Sustainability and Social Renewal). This years competition seeks to identify commercial solutions for individuals who have been disadvantaged by ageing, and/or how we can help people to age well.
