Rome Transformed Doctoral research builds on the interdisciplinary nature of the project, bringing together students with cross-disciplinary backgrounds and a team of supervisors that incorporates archaeologists, classicists, environmental archaeologists, geographers, engineers and hydraulic engineers.

It focuses on three cross-cutting themes, discussing the impact of water, building and environment on the political, military and religious transformation of the Eastern Caelian in centuries 1-8 CE.
