  • D-parameters: Development of program to automate Sp2:Sp3 Carbon analysis of XPS image

The aim of this project was to develop a program to process data from Newcastle’s National Centre for XPS research (NEXUS) using a scientific research collaboration website developed in Newcastle’s Computer Science department. Ultimately the program was to enable the processing of XPS ‘images’ of prevalence of two different types of carbon over an area of sample where each of the 65536 pixels of the ‘XPS image’ represents a whole spectrum itself. The project succeeded in its aims, creating a true picture from the data at reduced resolution although it was found that XPS imaging data at full resolution is too indistinct to extract useful results.
