  • Community-led housing: exploring the evidence and raising awareness of pioneer projects in the North East.

This project draws attention to a groundswell of interest in community-led development, focusing on pioneer housing projects in the North East of England. Community-led housing represents a range of initiatives such as self and custom build schemes, co-operatives, shared equity, land trusts and cohousing. This project will contribute deeper understanding of what motivates individual pioneers. One aim is to explore how to support local efforts over the length of time it takes to build homes for the communities involved. Another aim is to gather robust ‘positive stories’ of community building, identifying ways to mobilise these to raise awareness and widen participation.
