  • Exploring the relationships between pancreas and liver fat and serum triglycerides and type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease of impaired ability to metabolise glucose, the aetiology of which is not fully understood. Liver fat and serum triglyceride content are increased in type 2 diabetes; pancreas fat content decreases as individuals lose weight and return to normal glucose tolerance. Presently the pancreas is under-studied in type 2 diabetes and this project investigated the relationships between liver and pancreas fat, measured using magnetic resonance imaging, and serum triglycerides in order to better understand the pathophysiology of the pancreas in type 2 diabetes.
