  • An examination of the relationship between white matter tract integrity and grey matter volumetric change in depression

Studies of patients with depression using imaging techniques have demonstrated that certain brain regions have alterations in volume compared to healthy controls. For example the hippocampus (a region believed to be important for memory) has been found to be reduced in volume.  Other studies have shown that the integrity of fibre tracts that connect brain regions are also impaired.  Little is known about the relationship between these abnormalities.  This study will use data already obtained from patients and controls to examine the relationship between the volume of certain brain regions and integrity of related fibre tracts that connect to them.
