  • Investigating the use of Grey Matter Metabolite Concentrations as a Marker of the Severity of Traumatic Brain Injury and its Relationship to Cognitive Test Scores.

This research project used magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brains of patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). This allowed concentrations of key metabolites to be established in grey matter structures in the brain. The research sought to establish the relationship between these acute metabolic changes and patient performance in cognitive testing. In this way, it was hoped that the research would show whether metabolite concentrations in grey matter structures would provide an objective measurement of TBI severity.
