  • BSc (Hons) Biochemistry with Immunology
  • Investigating the effect of Colicin N T domain against different mutant Escherichia coli strains

Most of the cells in our body are not human but bacterial. In these complex communities bacteria fight each other for space, sometimes using toxins to kill off competitors. We are studying one such toxin, colicin N, which kills E coli.  In this project the student will develop and use a high speed absorbance assay to investigate the growth of many E coli. mutants when colicin production is induced . The student will get experience in protein biochemistry, microbiology and data analysis. The outcome will be a better understanding of how cells respond to antibiotic attack.
