The DEPTH (Digitally Enabled PrevenTative Health) AI Lab is a research group based at the Translational and Clinical Research Institute at Newcastle University. We undertake research at the intersection of disruptive innovation, digital health, software engineering, and public health. The lab develops and evaluates digital health innovations leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance clinical data management and enable health promotion. 

We conduct research in a range of clinical areas, with a particular focus on mental health, neurological disorders, and health behaviours. In mental health, we are involved in the evaluation of digital health and AI tools that facilitate mental health support and collaborate with other researchers and software development companies to develop digital mental health apps. Our research in neurological disorders includes projects using digital technologies to facilitate self-management. We also co-design and evaluate digital health and AI tools aimed at improving key health behaviours and improving resource efficiency.
