Background

The ARCHEPI programme is one of the research programmes within the Institute of Health & Society at Newcastle University, and contributes to the prevention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the life course. Our work covers five themes and embraces a broad range of methodological approaches, including:

We have strong interests in obesity related disorders, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and on cancers.

We work in the North of England and internationally, and much of our work concerns populations undergoing rapid changes in their risk of these diseases, such as those in the rapidly growing urban areas of low and middle income countries. We have access to several large data collections and established cohorts.

We aim to meet our goal not only through research but also through building research capacity and informing national and international policy.
