The results of the analyses are compared against the guideline limits for drinking water published by the World Health Organisation (WHO). These limits are used to illustrate what kind of treatment would be needed to make the water drinkable. Full documentation can be found here: Guidelines for drinking-water quality.

In many cases the water sampling locations on this website are not currently being used as drinking water sources.
