Dr Rachel Hammersley

Rachel Hammersley is a Senior Lecturer in Intellectual History at Newcastle University. Her research has explored ideas of republicanism, democracy and revolution in the early-modern period and the exchange of ideas between Britain and France. Her books include The English Republican Tradition and Eighteenth-Century France (Manchester University Press, 2010) and James Harrington: An Intellectual Biography (Oxford University Press, 2019). She has also published articles on Thomas Spence and on the politics of the Town Moor in C18 Newcastle. As a Co-I she leads the 'Past' dimension of the project.
