January 2019 - V3 Modems surpass expectations in Loch Ness trials

Newcastle team braved the wintry weather to take part in trials with Ecosub robotics and the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) on Loch Ness, Scotland. New V3 modems were first range tested between a jetty on the shoreline and a boat moving out across the loch.  Not a single data packet was dropped until 2.5 km range was reached and the devices maintained reliable ranging and exchange of 64 byte test messages up to 3.2 km (when we ran out of loch). Over the following days networks of fixed and moving (AUV mounted) modems were tested over a variety of ranges and depths, demonstrating with very consistent data packet delivery and ranging.
