August 2019 - USMART Launches Acoustic Gateway Buoy

On 13^th August 2019 the Newcastle team launched the acoustic network gateway buoy in the North Sea approximately 3km NE of Blyth, Northumberland. Equipped with 2 acoustic modems and 2 broadband hydrophones, the buoy will wirelessly relay network data and raw hydrophone signals back to shore. This will form the hub for demonstration of underwater sensor networks over the coming years, supporting USMART and a number of other projects on underwater acoustic communication and sensing.
