Survey

Commissioning contemporary art for heritage places is a growing practice internationally, but little research has been done about how these projects come about, their nature, or the impact they have on sites, audiences, or participating artists. It is important that we fill this gap in knowledge to create better understanding about this important field in contemporary art, ensure worthwhile investment, and identify best practice for the future.

To support our research we will be shortly launching a survey of international contemporary art in heritage projects. Our focus is on capturing information on temporary, site-specific activity (e.g. art commissions or artists' residencies) that have taken place beyond the UK over the last five years.
