Newcastle University, a leader heritage science research and digital humanities, is partnering with the BIRI on this important infrastructure project, laying the foundation for future expansion supporting UK research excellence and international collaboration.
Project development directly involves three key BIRI partners (BSA, BSR, BIAA) following which we hope that all BIRIs will benefit from the developed infrastructure. Transforming Access is collaborating with the BIRI Digital Coordination and Strategy Project.
The British International Research Institutes (BIRI) are global research partners in the arts, humanities and social sciences – discovering new knowledge, promoting cultural heritage and supporting international engagement. They comprise nine institutes that are hubs in a network of regional contacts and activities that cover the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and southern Europe, Africa, Turkey, the Middle East, Iran and Central Asia. The BIRI offer a unique and unparalleled resource for furthering understanding of humanity, past and present.
Founded in 1886, the The British School at Athens (BSA) exists to promote research of international excellence in all disciplines pertaining to Greek lands, from fine art to archaeometry and in all periods to modern times.
The British School at Rome (BSR) leads a transformative interdisciplinary community producing world-class research and practice in the heart of Rome. Staff and fellows collaborate across art, architecture, archaeology and the humanities, drawing on deep networks, skills and knowledge to contribute to the intellectual and creative cultures of the UK, Italy and the wider world.
The British Institute at Ankrara (BIAA) was founded in 1947 and incorporated in the 1956 cultural agreement between the Republic of Turkey and the United Kingdom. It is internationally renowned for conducting world-class research in Türkiye and the Black Sea region in the humanities and social sciences.
