Project Details

ITS cooperative systems can provide concrete solutions to road safety, energy efficiency and urban congestion problems by assisting the driver in avoiding accidents and providing the information required to choose the best route.

Compass4D services are meant for drivers of buses, taxis, trucks, emergency vehicles, electric vehicles and private cars that can use cooperative systems to make their journey safer, less stressful and more energy efficient.

Compass4D services

The Road Hazard Warning (RHW) service aims to reduce road collisions by sending drivers warning messages which would raise their attention level, and can also inform drivers of what the most appropriate behavior would be in relation to the hazards they faced.

The Red Light Violation Warning (RLVW) service aims to increase drivers’ alertness at signalised intersections in order to reduce the number and severity of collisions.

The Energy Efficient Intersection (EEI) service aims to advise drivers about the speed to adopt on their route when approaching an intersection to avoid last minute breaking. This service will also give priority to selected vehicles, for example emergency vehicles or delayed buses at intersections.

Compass4D will deploy these services thanks to a combination of established technologies developed in previous research and deployment projects such as FREILOT and COSMO, and available pre-commercial equipment. Dedicated short range communication (ETSI G5) and cellular networks (3G/LTE) will be used, following ETSI TC ITS standards.
