The Thermal Energy Challenge Network is funded by the Research Council UK Energy Programme to address improved energy utilisation in building and industry sectors. The Network is led by Professor Tony Roskilly, Director of the Sir Joseph Swan Centre for Energy Research UK (Swan). In addition, Professor Savvas Tassou, Director of the Institute of Energy Futures (IEF) at Brunel University London, and Dr David Reay at Newcastle University are the Co-Investigators of the Network.
It is planned to build the Network by utilising experience gained from previous research networks i.e. Process Industry Thermal Energy Management (PRO-TEM) Network (EPSRC Reference: EP/K039377/1) and Sustainable Energy Management (SusTEM) Network (EPSRC Reference: EP/G059284/1).
The Network will support the dissemination and impact of the research projects funded by the RCUK Energy Programme under this important theme and also other national and international research aimed at improving utilisation and efficiency of thermal energy through stakeholder engagement and knowledge transfer. It will have a strong multi-disciplinary focus and aim to ensure engagement and knowledge transfer across all aspects of the thermal energy challenge including technology, socio-economics, behavioural science and policy.
