STASH

Multicentre placebo-controlled double-blinded phase II trial assessing the clinical benefits of simvastatin in aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage.

STASH is a multi-centre randomised placebo-controlled trial comparing best medical care to best medical care and an infusion of Magnesium sulphate for 14 days.


Brief inclusion / exclusion criteria

Inclusion:

  • ASAH (confirmed both clinically and radiologically)
  • Aged 18-65 years
  • Reasonable prospect of survival
  • Enrolled within 96 hours of initial bleed

  • Exclusion:

  • Aged less than 18 or more than 65 years
  • Pregnancy
  • Moribund condition on admission
  • In excess of 96 hours from initial bleed
