NEWFORM

Pilot study comparing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and posterior foraminotomy as surgical interventions for cervical radiculopathy.

Newform is a pilot study into the best surgical approach cervical radiulopathy, either anterior or posterior. The anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) operation involves removing the disc joint from the front and removing bone and disc tissue to decompress the nerve. Posterior operations are done from behind and are aimed at removing part of the facet joint. Both of these approaches have their advantages and disadvantages but the best role for each remains unknown.

100 people will be assigned to either an anterior or a posterior operation. We will compare the results of the operation at six weeks and one year after the surgery.
