Potential
by Beverley Addy
Bright red cloth saturated with the blood of birth.
A blanket of new life teaming with potential,
bearing the dew of the baby’s dawn.
Dragged out to wrap a fledgling.
  Discarded for swaddling and succour.
Still clinging to it yet, this anticipation of life soaking into its fibres,
the opportunity for more, for new,
  for revival, revitalisation, resurrection
  - but yet discarded.
  Cells jettisoned and abandoned,
  wasted potential
bearing a scarlet warning to meddlers along the path of unguided life.
