Research Interests
Visual Perception
I am interested in understanding how the brain processes what we see. I use psychophysical methodology to investigate this. I have a number of current research interests including motion perception, depth perception (from disparity) and more recently emotion recognition.
Motion and Depth Perception
I am interested in understanding the mechanism(s) that the brain uses to process motion and depth (from disparity); there is good evidence to suggest that they might be processed by a similar mechanism. I want to understand more about the form of this mechanism and I investigate it using psychophysical methods.
Emotion Recognition
I am interested in understanding the importance of visual signals in emotion recognition. For example, to what extent is an advantage for recognition of positive emotion over negative emotion due to the visual properties of the image, or the affect?
