What is Speech and Language Therapy?
SLT (Speech and Language Therapy) helps adults and children who have difficulties with communication, swallowing, eating and drinking. This help includes practical interventions, care and support, and speech and language therapists may deliver this themselves or train other people, such as teachers and parents, how to help people with such difficulties.
Speech and language therapists work in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, clinics, homes, community centres and in the criminal justice system. They may work for the NHS, charities, Universities, in private practice, or a combination of these.
This website focuses on children’s Speech and Language Therapy. You can find out more about other types of Speech and Language Therapy and what Therapists do here on The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists website.
