What to do next...

What YOU need to do next:

Please follow these instructions carefully as they are important for representing a realistic epidemic.

 1. Please fill in your INFECTION NUMBER in the blank space on your badge.

(If you are receiving the badge from an A1 badge wearer, you will be A2 and the people who you give badges to, i.e. ‘infect’, will all be A3. Same applies for B1, B2, B3)

2. Please send your NAME, INFECTION NUMBER and the NAME AND INFECTION NUMBER of the person who ‘infected’ you to: sophiesepidemic@yahoo.com

3. Please wear the badge for 2 weeks.

4. You may ONLY discuss the experiment with those who directly enquire about your badge.

5. HOW TO ‘INFECT’ PEOPLE WITH THE DISEASE, i.e. pass on badges:

-          If someone asks about the badge you are wearing: they are then ‘infected’.

-          You must give them a new BADGE, an INFORMATION SHEET and YOUR INFECTION NUMBER and remind them to register their infection by email.

-          You must also give them an appropriate number of badges and info sheets to keep ‘infecting’ more people.

6. You can ‘infect’ as many people as enquire about the badge during the 2 weeks you are wearing it – only give out badges to Newcastle university students please.

7. You cannot be ‘infected’ more than once.

8. The experiment ends on the 17th December so all infections must be registered by then.

When you email me all these details, it would be a massive help if you included what course you are on.

How the Numbering System works

When you are 'infected' you must enter the same letter of the person who gave it to you and then the next number on from theirs. For example, the person who infects you may be A4. Everyone they hand a badge to, including yourself in this example, are A5. Everyone you hand a badge to is A6. This means you may see people with the same infection code as you - this is normal!

You may come across other people wearing badges with different letters to you. This just represents a different 'strain' of the disease. A represents one strain, B another, and C another.
